Results in Beijing have been very strange and testament to how players at this time of season perform very differently to the grand slams in the middle of the year. I have given up trying to work out who will win now especially after Gauff's easy defeat yesterday. ALexandrova is the type of player to step up and take advantage of the opportunity.

The big names have fallen early which has left this event much more open than any of the grand slams this year. Alexandrova duly won at good odds yesterday so the loss on Sabalenka has been covered and some. Kartal should be too good for CHaraeva despite her big win over Rybakina and Jovic looks set for a great week as well.
