Before her injury, Eva Lys was beating a lot of players. This included beating Katie Boulter easily. Even though she has taken quite a while to return to fitness, Eva Lys beat Paula Badosa in Stuttgart and will be far happier on the slow clay courts of Rome than Katie Boulter will be. At some point the German will return to her best and this could be the day to catch her. Alex Eala has beaten most of the players ranked below her this season. Magdalena Frech is on a 4 match losing run. Eala should win this match up:)
DTM recommends
E.Lys to beat K.Boulter
A.Eala to beat M.Frech
Jasmine Paolini arrives in Rome to defend her title but unfortunately her form suggests she will do well to reach her seeded position. This week may well be the last time the Italian plays from a top 10 protected position in the draw. Her ranking looks set to drop a lot lower. With Marta Kostyuk on a 12 match winning run on clay many will be looking at her draw this week. Aryna Sabalenka has never done well in Rome as the clay here tends to be slower than Madrid. But having thrown away her match points against Baptiste and not gone on to defend her title in Madrid the world #1 may perform better in Rome this time ?
Coco Gauff has to be of interest in Rome. Her draw looks favourable and she looks good to make the semi finals where she would potentially face Aryna Sabalenka.
DTM recommends
Coco Gauff each way for the title
Coco Gauff to win her quarter
Anastasia Potapova takes a step back from the highs of a semi final in Madrid to facing qualification in Rome. She is the highest seed in a very tough qualifying event. It is worth looking for clay court specialists on the slower paced clay courts. Mayar Sherif will never have a better chance of beating Anna Blinkova on this surface. Dalma Galfi is worth backing to beat Alycia Parks who won;t enjoy this kind of test.
DTM recommends
M.Sherif to beat A.Blinkova
D.Galfi to beat A.Parks
