Talia Gibson came within one point of beating Sasnovich but somehow lost from two match points up. Fortunately Alex Eala finally won a close match defeating Valentova in a thrilling tie break. The last 8 looks good for the higher ranked players to win.

Talia Gibson will beat Oliynykova in the first round. The Australian looks is good form coming into this event and may well reach the semi final to face Alex Eala in a repeat of her second round match last week.  Elsewhere Alex Eala should beat Alycia Parks and Katie Boulter will beat Golubic.

DTM recommends

Sorana Cirstea plays her last event of her career as the #1 seed. We wish her well but it is unlikely she takes home the title despite her top seeding. Alex Eala is playing much better and her level in Tokyo was the best on show except for Diana Shnaider. The Russian has pulled out of this week so Alex Eala has to be considered a favourit

Sorana Cirstea plays her last event of her career as the #1 seed. We wish her well but it is unlikely she takes home the title despite her top seeding. Alex Eala is playing much better and her level in Tokyo was the best on show except for Diana Shnaider. The Russian has pulled out of this week so Alex Eala has to be considered a favourite assuming her tennis level is sustained for the entire week.

DTM recommends

Alex Eala to win the title
